Ann May to Harriet May 26 May 1846 Ampthill 5 mo.26. My dear Harriet The minute account of Y.M. proceedings, with which thy nimble pen has furnished me is deeply instructive, & I take comfort in the belief that the mind is brought under the influence of that heavenly teaching in which is involved our highest interests, when steadily abode under - we have, it is true, to lament the removal by death of many a faithful standard bearer yet, how encouraging it is to find others raised up by the same power, equally qualified to proclaim the Gospel proceedings - Thy Aunt holds up comfortably, she came this morning to treat me with a sight of thy dear mamma's letter, we rejoice at the thought of receiving the precious trio - Yesterday I went down to see the alterations in the nursery &c. which were well worth making - all seemed complete but, on second thoughts, another unsettlement seemed needful, that of white washing the parlour, passage & kitchen, after this I have a little of the same done here, of which I must inform thy G.grand pa' by next post - We feel thankful in having the dear children all well, Mary Ellen is gone to tea at John Morris's, our three little ones are mostly in the garden where I often take a turn, but it is rather too windy this afternoon - I do not think my general health much improved if any of late, nor can I expect it until the weather becomes more settled, but I am favoured with so many comforts as forbid even a murmuring thought - We are very quiet of nights, Emma my only guard, sleeps in the dressing room, she continues very attentive. Thy Aunt May made her usual social call last evening, her love to you all of course. Bently got leave to go & see his sister Phebe, he is to return tomorrow. When thou sees't L.A. & Eliza assure them that I highly prize their valuable account of Y.M. & hope they will favour me with a continuation. With my very dear love to them & all our beloved circle, towards whom my mind often turns with affectionate desire that the present highly favoured season may be blest to their lasting edification I am, my dear H. thy ever affectionate G.'ma Ann May
