*missing Samuel May to Edward Harris Strange 27 May 1842 My dear Edward I have called at Sykes & seen him but he has put me off & will remit. I told him I should be in Town several days, & I hoped he would settle it before my leaving, but I think he is a bit low - I intend to press him for payment - I saw Thomas about 1/2 past nine he was loaded & about to set off - I have been to Towlers but can get nothing to please me also at Castles & I shall endeavour to find Tertius & he may tell me what kind of Shawls is wanted - - I have paid Bennett 100 - the other articles are coming from Castles & Puckles by coach. Our business is not so forward as we expected & I fear it will not conclude before 6th day - What shall I say about Henry Alexander - I find they look at it as a fixed thing and seem to expect we shall be ready to receive him soon after the vacation. Shall we conclude to propose for him to remain at school another half year or fall in with their wishes, I confess I should like we should have learnt whether the lad has any dislike to the business - if he has we had better decline taking him - with dear love Thy affectionate father Samuel May Nancy is come but we have not seen her.
