My dear Mother
Father's letter received this morning was very acceptable as it contained so pleasant an account of your proceedings but I think you have nearly staid to the end of favourable weather for the sea side, as today is a very dreary one -
Thou wilt think I am writing again very soon but Edward wishes to add something respecting John -
Dear Baby has cut her fourth tooth but is rather fretful today and I suppose others are on their way as I cannot otherwise account for it - the rest of us are quite well but the two last days have made slight chilblains appear, Tertius has a little touch of them -
The Clock man is not come so that we cannot send T.C.S.'s letter.-
Harriet Wheeler has not been again, but Ann thinks she had rather get into a larger family -
I intend writing to M.Dumelow at Hitchin to enquire for one.-
If the weather continues damp, I think it would be best to have a fire up at your house, & how wouldst thou like the beds to be aired? A fire in the chamber would be the most effectual I think.-
We called in upon William Morris this morning, he is pretty well & desires his dear love to you & is glad to hear you are enjoying yourselves - we happened to converse a little about Joseph May's prospects when poor William Morris seemed for the first time to comprehend that they were really thinking of taking all their family. - He said he did not know how he should bear it, but supposed he must give them up -
In a letter from Maria this morning she said they were busy with needlework - the girls are in high spirits which is well for them as I think the parting will be a severe trial.-
Thou wilt not be surprised I have engaged Mary Willshire to come for a time for a few hours in the day as I find a number of things I want to do in a morning, & cannot carry Baby out when it is fine & more than that as they are short-handed in the Shop to do without Willshire at dinner at present - Mary is to come to breakfast & stay dinner & to have 1/- per week for all the day on 7th & till 10 o'clock on 1st days.-
Have you heard that S. & P.Allen & Sarah & Phebe Lucas are going to occupy Elizabeth Wheeler's house? We had not heard of E.Bevington what an affecting occurrence it was!
Having written so lately I do not seem to have much news to tell you - & will leave it to Edward to tell about the business &c -
Please to give my dear love to all your dear circle, accept a large share yourselves from
Your affectionate Daughter Priscilla -
