Jane May nee Holmes, wife of Francis May, to Priscilla May 15 Aug 1833 Peckham 8th Mo 15th 1833 [Jane M. to P.M.] My dear Sister As H Tuckett has some intention of being with you tomorrow I gladly embrace the opportunity for writing as I have been wishing to do so almost daily since I left you, F.'s time seem'd so short while in town that I could not get a letter ready we were pleased to have a little of his company down here and I was truly glad to see him so much better than when I was at A [Ampthill]- I am now fancying you with about your usual number in family as, I suppose Aunt H. & two of her dear girls have left, we hear Mother is coming to Tottenham soon give our very dear love to them, and tell her we shall also expect a long visit from her and I should like her to know that we can make up a bed without the slightest inconvenience. I have as thou mayst imagine been very busy this last fortnight getting things to rights here and it now begins to look and feel a little more like home, I quite enjoy having the garden for the children and altogether think it is a delightful change from Bishopsgate St. the most unpleasant part is not having much of my F.'s company in the day time - I am glad to find going the journey to town every day seems to suit him nicely and he thinks he is already better for keeping out of town, he is rather perplexed just now as the shopman that Henry White left here is going to leave us, we think it may be some disadvantage - as Joseph has not been much accustomed to the oil business - Uncle Edward, aunt & George dined & spent the afternoon with us a few days before we came here, a few nights ago uncle was very ill I suppose it might have been called a slight attack of cholera - we heard of it through aunt D. who spent a day or two with them the beginning of their week, she was at our house in Bishopsgate 7th yesterday and intended leaving early this morning for Reading - We have not got our little S.J. home yet - but we are hoping Sarah will be coming with her in a few days, baby is looking better than when she was at Ampthill she as well as the rest of us were very much benefitted by the change while with you, dear L. is at school she is not quite so well as sometimes as she has a little cold & sore throat - she says she does not like Peckham so well as Ampthill because the garden is not so big, I found when we got home that Lydia had taught her a pretty piece of poetry called the three graves I should be much obliged if thou wouldst send me a copy of it as she does not repeat it quite correctly.- I am glad to hear better accounts of Nancy give my dear love to her, another time I hope we shall contrive to spend a little time together - Is any time yet fixed for thy going to Frenchay I hope thou wilt continue to come and see us if it is to be only for one {?} I often think of thee when I am gardening and long {for} thy company, I planted the musk plant - and as I forgot to mention it to the gardener, I think he has raked it all up except one little piece which has signs of life at present - Uncle & Aunt Arch spent last 1st day with us, we enjoyed having a little of their company greatly. As it is tea time I must say farewell and with my dear love to F., M., & Emily believe me my dear Priscilla to be Thy affectionate sister Jane May. I am sorry to say we think we must part with our London servant She has visitors almost every day if you should hear of any one very eligible I should be glad to know - Priscilla May, Obliged by H. Tuckett Ampthill
