*missing Rachel Hooper (nurse, aunt of Louisa Hooper) to Ann May 29 Apr 1833 Third day My dearest Aunt As Edward says I am to make up the six penny worth I think I can make this dispatch still more valuable by adding as to today's bulletin a very favourable report of our nursery. dearest Caroline & babe both appearing in a fair way to do well after passing a very comfortable night and much quieter with regard to the cough than dear C. has appeared for some time. We seemed to have it {all to} ourselves yesterday as Edward was too busy to spend more time with us than was absolutely necessary, {with no} nurse, being amongst his patients with Influenza. We concluded not to have her till today, fearing her company would be disturbing. I therefore supplied her place till this morning.- It is a great comfort to see all the dear children so much better than they were a week ago. Poor Lucy Ann was attacked rather severely. she thought it like the same thing all over again to be so ill and have Aunt R. to nurse her, but she thinks she did not feel nearly so ill then as she did this time. I am sorry to send a very poor account of Sister Hooper who has had the prevailing malady very severely, she was rather on the recovery this recent weekend when I left her, but by a letter I received from Emily yesterday, I fear she has kept her bed since last 4th day, with the loss of appetite & considerable reduction of strength she has had a blister on her chest, but E. said it had not produced much good effect. E. said her Papa hoped that she would be better after a few days so that I hope I shall not make you unnecessarily anxious. One of the patients that has made E. anxious is Rachel Howard's little girl - I think he saw her four times yesterday - she is a shade better today.. I do not know whether thou hast heard that I am looking forward to rejoining our valued friend E.Howard when E. has done with me, as she has expressed a wish for me to take up my abode with her for some time to come. It is pleasant to look forward to something like settlement and at the same time to continue near dear E. & C. and others whose kindness has of late been so abundantly manifest - It seems very long since I had the pleasure of an interview with thee. It would seem quite delightful to see thee, and to converse upon those topics on which our mutual interest is expected and such occurrences as being viewed in the light of Providential dealing with us &c. & all reverendly for serious commemoration & praise: and though to some of us these have appeared more visible in their effects than in their perception yet thou often has therefore of seemingly unknown wants constrained the believing soul to adopt the language "It is the Lord, let Him do what seemeth Him good" - - Lucy Ann & Eliza Jane since remind me that it is time to change my employment, so with many apologies for this scrawl and a message of dearest love from Caroline I must in the same feeling subscribe myself Thine sincerely Rachel Hooper. Charles short account of you conveys a great deal & more we think than could be expected.- Much love to Priscilla.- Seal : R.H. Samuel May Postmarks : TOTTENHAM F NIGHT Ampthill F.V.
