Ann May to Priscilla May 31 May 1831 Bishopsgate St 5th 31. My dearest P My hand almost refuses to guide the pen which is a trial of patience having much to say & very little time - The parcel & thy note were quite acceptable but I really want a black apron do my dear send me a new one. We go to meeting at eleven this morning - the business is not very forward the men friends visit us so much, yesterday afternoon J.J.G. took up a very long time.- An excellent address to the counties is prepared & some of the answers to the foreign epistles - Christine Healey is prevented going to some of the sittings by suffering with a liver complaint. John Wilbur appeared in testimony with great weight yesterday, at Gracechurch Street - Anna Braithwaite too as she does perhaps I may say invariably & with remarkable power & clearness at our meetings in short we are favored with such valuable communications that I long to carry the substance but H.Tuckett has been chatting with me now Caroline is just come in they are tolerably well but Edward has been rather harassed with trying occurrences in his practice however one good thing is Rachel E.Howard is safe with another daughter.- Yesterday I dined with my three brothers at Fish St. Caroline Curtis & her child & Emily all on their way to Glazen Wood. Francis Tuckett too is gone there after spending an evening in town with his Marianna, M.A.Maddock & Louisa Hooper from Kennington brought rather a poor account yesterday - my sister was not very well but little Caroline was so poorly that it is likely we may not go to Alton on 7th day as intended if so I hope to attend the anti slavery meeting next 2nd day - Charles went down last evening to Joseph Lister's - J.Wise & little Charles are now on their way to Ipswich in this rain he spent last evening here & Richard Wood took leave - Richard Marsh called - & I cannot tell thee who else as it is M. time - Jane keeps mostly upstairs, has occasional threatenings. John Wilbraham dines with us today.- With love to all as tho' named Thy affectionate Mother Catharine her F. & Mother have called there is no hope of thy having her but she will write. [in pencil] : To be read first Priscilla May
