Ann May to Priscilla May 23 Nov 1830 Ampthill 11th Mo 23rd My dearest P. My hand is still in poor plight & not mended by just having scrawled over a sheet to our dear Jane - I was in two minds my dear about sending these worsteds as in truth I sadly want thee home yet as Joseph Morris with little William Marsh is going tomorrow it seems a good opportunity by way of example, when thou writes to me I will begin telling about myself but perhaps thou hast heard that I was well enough to enjoy E.Wheeler's visit & we walked out every day but alas! the day before she left last 5th day week the bleak wind gave me such a cold as I still feel the effects of in my wrist & sometimes the whole arm I take Sarsaparilla tea thrice a day at C.'s request & he almost persuades me to try Colchicum wine but nothing makes any difference - I occasionally knit for a short time, but have not lately used a needle & even give up the teapot to thy F. very unwillingly thou mayst be sure & altogether a great trial of patience I find it but I get a little help in reflecting on my numberless remaining blessings desiring to be preserved from ingratitude to the Giver of them on account of what is withheld by these privations - Nancy is very kind in often coming with her work Charles has just called to say she cannot come as expected this evening - C.has only made some preparations for {boring} he has plenty else to do being obliged to send his old boiler to Leicester & is preparing to set the enormous one. Edward Beck is here - J.Wise's house not let yet - it seems by a letter from John today that Hannah & little Charles are gone to Ipswich. Thy F. wants me to go to Hitchen M.M. next 2nd day & on to town to be in the way of help from medical skill but for one thing I get rather faithless & for another am afraid to put my head out of doors - I believe thy aunt D. is on a visit to M.Foster & that she will be ready to come then so if the weather favours it, I should like to go to Tottenham late in next week & meet thee there but it is quite useless to form any plan - Daniel brought but a poor account of Betsy & the infant, they have had a birth & marriage the former at H [..bourn's] and Sally B is chang'd to Stevens - Cousin Lydia gone to Basingstoke - E. Chapman & Jane Eagles were at their post today - We do not get a tenant at the meeting house cottage - I hope to hear that you are all well & free from measles in the family - Our four young ones were over here today quite happy Margaret with her parents drank tea here on 1st day being her birthday she is often wishing thou wouldst come home - With much of our united dearest love to thy uncle & aunt & all - I remain in haste Thy ever affectionate Mother.
