Samuel May junior to Priscilla May Jan 1830 Tottenham 1 mo 1830 [S.M.jun. to P.M.] Dear Sister As I thought thee would expect a few lines from me I intend doing as much if it were only to let Mother know that we have not been into the back parlour since she left and have kept as much to the front parlour as possible. I have had a bad cold as is the fashion just now but it is much better today I have had a small blister which is now healed I was very glad to see Charles he is now gone over to C.Phillips to bind Jun. but I expect him back to supper I have not yet been allowed any animal food except now & then just a tit bit for instance I am expecting to partake of a brace of partridges for supper which one of E's patients was so kind as to send him I am glad to hear George Giddins is at Francis's and George thinks him a nice handy boy. E.Hodgkin had the scarlatina a few days after she was confined but is now got so well as to be off the Doctor's list entirely. Daniel has got his bad cold come at last which he thought he should have escaped this winter R & B Winston spent the evening here last 4th Day along with Edmund Hooker. I have not had any bumps come out now for a week or ten days which I think is a very good sign my pulse has been much lower these last few days though my cough has been very violent at times it is much looser now. I have scarcely any pain when I cough I have been reading Captain Halls travels in America which is very interesting. Brother Edward has been so kind as to make me a present of Gurney's Hymns a very small but neatly bound book. The Children are all very well and free from cough & cold sister has not been out of the house more than once for the last 5 weeks but she is pretty well again now We have been having some Cranberry pudding today which Daniel's father was kind enough to send to Edward along with 12 Tongues which are nearly 2 feet in length before being boiled the pudding has given me the swelling a little I think and I do not intend eating them again. I cannot get to learn when I am to come home but am afraid it will be some time yet as the weather E. says is too severe to allow of any turning out I am getting on bravely with my netting and have used 4 Balls quite large ones I cannot get it fast enough. As Charles is come back I believe I must conclude for this evening. With very Dear love I remain with very dear love to all And accept the same thyself Samuel May Jun Priscilla May Ampthill Beds
