Ann May to Priscilla May Ampthill 10th Mo 18th Dearest P. I did intend this time to have sent a right earnest letter including my "journal" of last week but have wanted opportunity, suffice it to say the day passed very agreeably, we staid supper at J Ransom's the dinner party consisted of thirty; at tea we were joined by the young people friends of Hitchin, making forty in all, the parlour was just full - we left our good quarters on 6th day morning were followed by the bride party, who thought of getting to Leamington that night - The Dumelows dined here on 2nd day & in the evening J & Lucy Beck. we returned the visit yesterday - George [Beck] was articled yesterday Lucy came on first day with the infant to spend a few days with John they both leave this morning - Edmund Fry was prevented coming we are to expect him next week. Think of us again my dear on 6th day in the morning is to be the meeting of our A.L.S. & in the evening the re-establishment of the Book Society. Lest the silk for a bonnet should not be in the right hue thou had better get one at J.Warrens, I am afraid to send that like thy spencer say if thou prefers it. Get a cloth shawl at Sister Holmes' set down to M.& W.[May & Wise] or perhaps it might be left until thy F. goes to town - I shall be glad of the socks intend sending thy garters next time - I was concerned to hear of thy croaking but a ride to Tottenham was the most delightful remedy I can just now think of, should much like to try it for myself, hope thou continues well - we are all much as usual.- Had a great treat yesterday morning just after our breakfast R.Barrett & companion came, were comforted with a sweet religious opportunity when they were refreshed with breakfast, Nancy was here, Charles & J.Beck were gone to Marston to breakfast - in much haste & more love to thee & all our dear ones - Thy affectionate Mother P.May
