Title
Ann May to Priscilla May 3 April 1826
Ampthill 2nd Day.
Dearest P.
Just at coach time as usual I am endeavouring to chat a little with thee knowing how much thou art interested in our proceedings both small and great - We have pass'd another busy week more comfortably to me than is often the case when my quiet is so much broken in upon, this day last week was a grand visiting day our M.M. here, we had a moderate share of company (eleven dined at J.Morris's)- my cousin Emma Wiblen & Emma Trimmer from Guildford staid till 4th day, I was pleased with their company & wished thou could'st get acquainted with the latter they are gone (probably) to Town today, from Hitchin Sarah Evans's is where they visit & as Emma T. is desirous of thy acquaintance I hope thou wilt contrive to meet her somewhere.
On 4th day evening as we were at tea over at Charles' a hasty summons came to receive Richd & Jonn Barrett at our house the former travelling in the ministry we quickly obeyed it & with thy F. & I lodging in thy little bed we could take all in & had much pleasure in their visit - Thy F. & Nancy went next day to the Q.M. 4th day evening with them, the Q.M. at Leighton being on 5th to which many other strangers repaired, the two Elizth Frys Sam Gurney &c the meeting was favored with a powerful ministry - I staid at home to receive Harriet Wise who is now here & I have no idea how long she stays - she regrets thy absence - She is very free and agreeable.
Last 7th day W.Exton dined here gave me a special invitation to the wedding next 5th day week, as thy F. is appointed I suppose I shall accept it, though not altogether of choice as thou know'st how I enjoy staying snugly at home.
Yesterday Jeffery Arthur & George went in the gig to Hitchin it seems Lucy Beck & family are expected there this week - am sorry to hear that Oswald Foster has been very unwell tho' he is recovering.
Nancy has weaned Margaret without the least trouble her father O.S. [Ollive Sims] came last 5th day to spend a few weeks with them.
Charles is what he calls a pig merchant having purchased three to use the refuse of almond cake which he is extracting the essential oil from, quite by wholesale.
Lewis is very well and much amused {by} H.Wise's agreeable attention to him.
Now having scribbled such a history shall expect to hear thine in return. hope thou art enjoying thyself very much, amusing the dear children & being useful to thy aunt in every possible way.
It was very comforting to me to hear by my dear F.'s letters that thou wast well -
Am not sure whether Sarah has finished thy stays - dost thou want shoes? -
On 7th day there was a new arrival at our neighbour Franklin's another fine boy,- With all our dearest love to all, Thy ever affece Mother
