Title
Ann May to Priscilla May [app Dec 1824]
Ampthill 6th Day
My dearest P
Having no letter of thine by me to answer, and moreover a scarcity of news, I need not take the pen except for the sake of keeping up a little scribbling acquaintance, and first may tell thee that Elizabeth has a fine boy, he came to town last first day about three, she is she is very well. a second daughter arrived at Rogers's yesterday morning -
I suppose it is not likely we shall see thee before thou goes to N.[Newington] it would seem a great expense for so short a pleasure, I did hope to have given thee a few sage instructions relative to thy general conduct, but thou art of an age to consider the value of a good and amiable character as well as to profit by the extraordinary opportunity that I trust awaits thee, of having a foundation laid for future happiness in the religious education which among all the advantages attendant offered I prize the most.-
I had a kind visit from M.Bennell last 4th day Joseph jun. came for her in the evening the two girls were at Kempston; Nancy on a visit at Hitchin, we are all to spend a day at Houghton soon. if thou art in a scribbling mood I should like thee to renew thy acquaintance that way with M or E. they would like to hear about the lectures &c Do not fail my dear to send me a circumstantial account of every thing interesting to thee, but particularly how my dearest Francis is, I cannot divest myself of anxiety about his health, teeth, &c hope to write to him again sometime -
I am to give Thomasin's & Sarah's love, they are sadly disappointed at not seeing thee -
We wished to have ordered books for the Society, but as M.Morris comes tomorrow it will be best deferred, are obliged for thy list.
Have I told thee what a choice letter Nancy Marsh has favored me with, dear S. was so happy but no doubt thou hast seen M. and I hope also enjoyed thy sister N.'s company -
Give my dearest love to thy dear Aunt Arch, it will give me much pleasure to have a letter of hers to answer.- My love to S.Holmes & daughters William [Holmes] is quite well -
Lewis improves so fast that I could say a great deal about him between ourselves only if time admitted but expect the coach every min - he talks a great deal about thee -
With dearest love believe me ever Your affectionate Mother
Priscilla May
