Ann May to Priscilla 7 Nov 1824 Ampthill 11th Mo 7th My dearest P. It is with much concern that I hear of thy having a bad cold, hope it is not attended with much suffering, or at least that thy eyes are not affected; in order to guard against another such attack when favoured to recover thou must try to recollect what has produced this and avoid it, do not forget to wear thy new cork shoes. It proves that I was mistaken about S.Burge's movements in town, she goes up tomorrow by our Coach, to call at South P. that evening, but fear she will not have time to see thee, as it is fix't for her to lodge at an Inn & return next day - Last 3rd Day evening we were joined by C. & Nancy to a grand tea visit at J.Morris's, they have called on us this morning and after walking round our poor garden we all went to see their green-house, which is full stocked, I am to have a tea visit before the Ashby's leave next week - thou wilt think it is the season for visiting when I tell thee Nancy Bennell is spending a few days with N. & M.Morris by way of taking leave of the former, and we have had a general visitation from M. & E.Townsend of Godmanchester, they intended lodging here but went to W.M.'s & have left today.- The weather proves unfavourable to the full enjoyment we should otherwise have of thy dear uncle & aunt's company, it is too wet to walk out much - Lewis is being finely entertained by his aunt of whom he gets very fond, he went with all the party to J.Morris's this morning to see the great cat, & musical clock - We hear the disappointed travellers E.W. & J.S. are to pass thro' town, so as to reach Hitchin to-morrow. - With respect to S.Corder's school, I think it will now be doubly desirable for thee on account of thy cousins' society, yet there are some impediments to our concluding upon it, yet after due deliberation, we advise either Edward or Francis's seeing S.Corder & requesting the favour of her informing them when the last application is made - second thoughts think I must scribble about it to Edward. The old towels &c shall be forthcoming soon. I do not forget what was borrowed of Ann beg her to use mine meanwhile.- It is getting cold for muslin frocks, I think I had better make a stuff frock by this we have here & send it, shabby as it is, for mornings. My stock of chit-chat being exhausted after telling thee Nancy is washing, of Charles so earnest about having the long talked of { mill as to talk of going toward Leicester about { } this evening. I must beg thee to have a nice fire in the parlour & take great care of thy health also give our united dearest love to Francis & accept the same believe me to remain Thy ever affectionate Mother [pencil postscript, & sketch of lying dog ] Lewis's love to his dear Francis & Priscilla.
