Priscilla May to Ann May & Samuel May at Ampthill 5 May 1820
Doncaster 5th Mo 5th 1820
My dear Parents
As a month has expired since I wrote last, I sit down to say that one of my eyes has been inflamed again, but is nearly well. I enjoy good health, and hope you are do the same.
I have been expecting a letter to know when Brother James was going home, but was disappointed to hear that he was gone without seeing me.
Last week we went a-visiting to Sarah Oliver's and Ellen Cocklin's, but perhaps you do not know them. Sarah Oliver shewed us some very pretty shells & other curiosities from the East Indies, at Ellen Cocklin's we spent a very pleasant visit.
The gardens look very pretty, and most of the seeds are coming up; the lilacs are nearly blown. We cut the mustard & cress a week ago. The weather here has been a great deal cooler than it was sometime past.
Our vacation commences the 13th of 6th Mo and the time is very near when I shall hope to meet you all.
I have another companion now, from Manchester, her name is Rachel Docksay.
In the next letter I have from Mother or James, should like to know how Brothers Edward, Charles, Francis, & Samuel are.
Please give my dear love to Charles & Edward and all enquiring friends, and accept a large share yourselves.
From your affectionate Daughter Priscilla May
