Priscilla May to Ann May & Samuel May at Ampthill 4 Nov 1819 Doncaster 4th 11th Month 1819 My dear Parents As a month has elapsed since I wrote last I sit down to say that I am very well, and hope that you are the same. I was very much obliged to you for the parcel you sent me by Cousin Maria Maddock, and thought it very kind of you. I was very glad to hear that Cousin Maria is so near me, and I hope she will write to me soon. Thomas Smart called to see me a few weeks since, and he was so kind as to give me five shillings, and said that he had seen James at Ackworth and he was looking very well. I do not know whether Brother's cake was received safe, I suppose it was, for it was sent by William Hattersley. I was much pleased to hear that you went to George Osborn's and to Olney and Hamden. I think that Philip must have been much pleased with your being there. I hope that Father has not given up the idea of coming to see me, for I should be rather disappointed in not having the pleasure of seeing him. In the Arithmetic I am in the Rule of Three Direct, and in my ciphering book Division. Please tell Mary Wheeler that Martha Smith has been very poorly but is better I hope the next time you write, you will mention how you are. Please to give my love to Brothers, and all enquiring friends, and accept a very large share yourselves - From your affectionate Daughter Priscilla May P.S. Please to tell Samuel that I am much obliged to him for his present note. Postmark: DONCASTER 159 Samuel May Ampthill Bedfordshire
