According to James Dyer, Frank Stygall and John Dony's 'The Story of Luton' pp 174 - 176, 195 - 196, Luton Corporation inaugurated an electrical tram service in 1908, under a special Act of Parliament. In 1931 the Corporation attempted to sell the transport rights to the Eastern National Bus Company. The Ministry of Transport prevented this. The Corporation however, scrapped the trams and replaced them with Luton Corporation Omnibus Service. The Town Clerk's files listed in BorL/CT almost exclusively relate to this later Omnibus Service and are a valuble source for transport history. 1930 - 1935 & the 1950s.
