Enclosure The section falls naturally into two parts: Non-Parliamentary: Bedfordshire. The enclosure agreement for Clophill, Flitton and Gravenhurst (Ion), are all connected with the Duke of Kent's extension of the part at Wrest in the early 18th century - 'my lord of Kent going to build a new house at Wrest' (L25/6) and the recitals in the Ion agreement (L25/19) that the Duke wishes to extend his park and make an avenue. The extent of the early enclosure can best be seen from the Parliamentary enclosure maps of the three parishes; M.D.L 14 appears to be a plan of the changes effected at Ion. This latter is the biggest undertaking and the 'agreement' is virtually an 'award', giving details of the lands exchanged. (Cf. L. 4/150, and 5/419-20) Leicestershire. The enclosure of Burbage and subsequent controversies must have occupied a good deal of the steward's time round about the turn of the 16th century. The enclosure proposals had begun by 1585 and appear to have been completed by 1612. The agreement drawn up in 1600 has many details of interest; individual transactions concerning larger acreages were completed by the process shown in nos. 110-130. (see also 26/1132, 1137-9). (See also 24/401-408). Parliamentary. The remainder of the section concerns enclosure by Act of Parliament. Good series of papers exist for Gravenhurst and Stondon, and for the Crudwell property
