    Court roll for the manor of Britens [Houghton Conquest] Records as follows:Court Baron of Francis Clerke, knight, held 15 Sep 1630, before Richard Taylor, esquire, steward.Records essoins (none), homage (John Woodward, John Harrison, William Ryseley and Edward Cooper), default(er)s to the Court (Edmund Conquest, knight, Richard Conquest, esquire, Richard Stratton junior, and Thomas Arnold), and presentments of the following land transactions: admission of John Woodward after the death of his father John Woodward to one acre of land; alienation from Peter Taylor to Richard Stratton senior of 2 butts of land and 1 acre of land in Long Brach; alienation from Thomas Arnold to Edmund Cooper of a messuage with close adjoining in Church End; seisin of John Davy in a tenement in Howend being land Richard Conquest knight lately held; seisin of Richard Conquest esquire in a tenement and land pertaining to the same in Chapple end and a tenement formerly of John Day in the same place; seisin of Thomas Awdley gent. in a pightle lying in Piks; and presentment of a relief falling due upon the death of Thomas Awdley since the last Court seised of a tenement, a[nother] tenement formerly Archer's, a rood of land in Chelmead, and a parcel of land abutting upon Butts Land, and 5 acres in Mauffield, to which Thomas Awdley infant and son is next heir, and his mother Etheldred acting as guardian. These inscriptions are likely to account for the severance of the record of these two courts from the main sequence of Court Rolls.
