The New Bridge' is a community magazine, with a strong underlying Christian flavour, for the parishes of Harrold and Carlton. It was launched in June 1989 with the support of the Inter-Church Planning Committee and a grant from the Bedfordshire Rural Community Council as a replacement for the monthly 'Bridge' magazine and the United Reformed Church Newsletter. Six volumes are produced every twelve months, and as the first volume each year appears in February, the twelve month period ends in January the next year. Typically, each edition covers news from Harrold and Carlton, notices of church services, births, marriages, deaths and obituaries, and includes reports from Parish Councils, Baptist Meetings, Harrold United Reformed Church, Carlton Hall Farm and many social and sporting groups such as the Discussion Group, Brownies, Cubs and Scouts, Home Watch, Friends of Harrold Surgery, Carlton and Chellington Historical Society and seventeen or more other local organisations. The first volume of 1998 contains a transcript of a Jubilee Petition to be presented by St Peter's, St Mary's and the Chapel to the G8 Conference of world leaders in Birmingham, supporting the cancellation of the backlog of Third World debt before the millennium.
