Richard Thomas Cooke, Luton, gentleman.
He has read the recitals in mortgage of 14 January 1862. He is the Richard Cooke of Luton, solicitor, referred to as holding a mortgage of the property for 1000. The recital is incorrect.
At the time of the execution of the said deed the title deeds of property concerned, and to other property, were in his possession as security for 700 advanced by John Cooke of Stamford, surgeon, 700 advanced by himself and 300 balance of a sum advanced by Jane Cooke of Stamford, widow, but no mortgage in fee of said property has been executed to him by said Thomas Sworder as a security for 1000, nor, to the best of his knowledge and belief, has Thomas Sworder ever executed a mortgage to John or Jane Cooke
