    This battalion was formed in August 1914 and attached to 9th Division at Aldershot until March 1915 when transferred to 112th Brigade, 37th Division on Salisbury Plain; it landed in France on 30 Jul 1915 and was reduced to a cadre on 20 May 1918, the men being transferred to 1/1st Hertfordshire Regiment; the cadre served as part of 39th Division training American units until disbanded on 4 Aug 1918 37th Division was composed as follows: 110th Brigade: [transferred to 21st Division on 7 Jul 1916] 6th Leicestershire; 7th Leicestershire; 8th Leicestershire; 9th Leicestershire 63rd Brigade [transferred from 21st Division on 7 Jul 1916] 8th Lincolnshire; 8th Somerset Light Infantry; 4th Middlesex; 10th York & Lancaster [disbanded 4 Feb 1918] 111th Brigade [attached to 34th Division from 7 Jul to 21 Aug 1916]: 10th Royal Fusiliers ["Stockbrokers"]; 13th Royal Fusiliers [moved to 112th Brigade 4 Feb 1918]; 13th King's Royal Rifle Corps; 13th Rifle Brigade 112th Brigade [attached to 34th Division from 7 Jul to 21 Aug 1916]: 11th Royal Warwickshire [disbanded 7 Feb 1918]; 6th Bedfordshire [disbanded 20 May 1918 and replaced by 1/1st Herfordshire]; 8th East Lancashire [disbanded 4 Feb 1918, men transferred to 11th battalion]; 10th Loyal North Lancashire [disbanded 4 Feb 1918]; 1st Essex transferred from 88th Brigade, 29th Division on 4 Feb 1918; 13th Royal Fusiliers [joined from 111th Brigade on 4 Feb 1918] Pioneers: 9th North Staffordshire Successive Commanders: Major General Count Gleichen (until Oct 1916); Major General S.Scrase-Dickens (22 Oct 1916 to Nov 1916); Major General H.Bruce-Williams (9 Nov 1916 to Armistice)
