  • Scope and Content
Charles Nicholls seems to have come into possession of his Chibley property through a marriage settlement of 1664 with his wife Agnes [see H/WS 467]. Agnes appears to have been the widow of Edward Rolfe, her second husband. Her first husband was Robert Greene, who died in 1635. Robert Greene had the messuage in Chibley and surrendered it to the use of his wife Agnes. She retained it through her second marriage, and when she married a third time to Charles Nicholls, she gave him the property as part of the settlement. She died in around 1670-71 and Charles Nicholls was admitted to the property in 1672 [see H/WS 468 for his admittance, and H/WS 461-468 for ownership of the property until Charles Nicholls was admitted].
