- Admin/biog historyMcConnells began trading in 1903 as Alexander McConnell. Around 1911 O S Horn took over the running of the Bedford office and the firm traded as McConnells. Between 1957 and 1959 the firm became Connells and in 1959 had offices in Bedford, Luton, London, Dunstable, St Albans, Harpenden, Hitchin and Leighton Buzzard. In 1975 they had premises at 25 Mill Street and in 1976 had both 25 and 27 Mill Street. In 1998 they are listed in the Bedford telephone directory at 42 Allhallows.
- Archival historyThe collection was discovered in the cellar of their former premises, 20 Mill Street, Bedford, and given to the Archives Service by Richard Wildman in 1997, It was in very poor condition, having suffered from damp and insect damage, and was always very dirty.
