- Admin/biog historyGeorge Mervyn Lee was born in Longton, Staffs, in 1915. His grandfather, George Samuel Lee was a country vicar in the Lincoln diocese having been ordained by saintly Bishop King of Lincoln. His father, George Samuel Turnball Lee, was master at Bedford Modern School from 1918 until his retirement, he died in 1964. The family lived in Cutcliffe Grove, then at 8 Chaucer Road, Bedford. George Mervyn Lee was educated at Bedford School, and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was a classical scholar. He taught in many schools and was a prolific letter-writer to Bedford papers. He was a contributor to the Oxford Latin Dictionary until his retirement in 1980.
