- description: "Barton-le-Cley is, reputedly, the oldest Rectory in the country still in its original use. The Rectory was built around 1575 in the reign of Elizabeth I and has remained the Rector's residence ever since. It is said that prior to that the Rector had lived in the tower of the adjacent Church of St.Nicholas, itself dating from 1180. Listed Grade II being of architectural or historic interest, The Rectory is thought to date from about 1575. the house was subsequently remodelled and enlarged in the 17th century with the new frontage to the south presenting a much grander aspect. The Rectory is constructed in part of timber frame under an old clay tile roof. Internally the house has been divided into two parts, providing accommodation for the Rector in the west wing whilst the remainder has been used for parish meeting rooms. The Rectory ha potential to create a magnificent single house of generous proportions. The gardens and grounds are a principal feature of the property, lying predominantly to the south, with sweeping lawns leading to the original moat, screened by a selection of mature trees";
