At Biddenham, 11 June 1375. seal on tag: black wax, oval, about 2 3/4 x 1 3/4; edges mainly broken off; marginal legend: (BAPT)ISTE ---(BEDF)OR(D). device: figure of a bearded saint, naked, except for the 'camel-hair', with rough locks and a border thrown over his right shoulder; carrying a scroll which may perhaps be read as TUPVERPRO (PHETA) ALTE (i.e. Atxtissimi vocaberis) form the Vulgate of Luke i, 76. tag slit and passed through, but the seal appears to have slipped as it is now clear of and below the slit. This seal does not seem to have been recorded. (Note: the tenements conveyed by this lease were probably part of the gift by Wm. Chibbele to the Hospital in 1354 to secure masses for the soul of dom. John Carpenter of Shitlyndon, late chaplain of Herne chapel, cf. TW. 163).
