  • Scope and Content
'Mrs Richmond and myself are preparing to take a journey to Glasgow to see our daughter Marshall who has been dangerously ill, but now recovering & expects to be confined sometime before May. We are yet undecided whether we go the land way by Manchester & Carlisle, or the sea way by Liverpool. The point remains to be ditermined partly, by some Jewh church miss'y correspondence in the northern counties & partly by the probable comfort & safety of steamboats as it relates to my wife, who is much of a coward in regard to maritime matters. I therefore put two queries to you which I request you to answer...Firstly what steamvessels will be going to Glasgow in the second week of April & on what days? Secondly, could a church, a congregation, a collection & an advantage be obtained for the Jews cause, if I were to preach a sermon for it on Tuesday the eight of April? This would be quite independent of your anniversary season, & might be appropriated for more general acceptance, to the Hebrew Testament Fund. I am at present totally uncertain whether I can visit Liverpool at any other part of the year & the present proposal hangs upon other correspondence; but on the receipt of your early reply, viz as soon as you possibly can, I will decide. Believe me faithfully yours Legh Richmond.'
