  • Scope and Content
Information of John Medlock of Bigglesswade, carrier. 'I have grown a very pecluiar sort of potatoes, brought by me from Broadwater three years ago. I had at first but one potato of this sort, which produced the first crop, about a bushel; the next crop, 2 years ago, I had from them 15 bushels, and this year about 40 bushels. I never sold but 2 bushels, these I sold to Samuel Bilcock of Biggleswade last spring, the produce of which he yesterday told me he still had, not having sold any to anybody. I put the produce of my potatoes of this sort into one pit in a field which I rent of Mr Chapman of Biggleswade ...' The pit was opened and about 7 or 8 bushels taken out. Heard from John How that his boy had seen James Dilly and William Arnold near his field with a spade and sack. Searched James Dilly's father's house and found potatoes which he, Medlock, identified as his.
