A man of some family who has made an immense fortune by Government Contracts/Contacts [?] Uncle to Mr. O'reilly and to the gentleman he was with. Sorry he didn't see Saltram but glad they met him. Grantham likely to see Las Casas soon. Will explain some day some of the things Yranda said etc... Mr.[James] Harris in Berlin, household in great confusion, has asked for Beylie. A change will be to the latter’s advantage and little inconvenience to Grantham as his employment had dwindled to payment of under servants and odd bills and setting dinner. His wife only dealt with the linen. Gave a roast dinner. Had about 12 people, three tables, some stayed until 4 a.m.. Grimaldi met the Clermonts, they went away this morning. L'elu used to come in on an evening and they used to draw. Very cold & particularly snowy.
