Admin/biog history
Company began in 1838 when E P Rose's father bought an existing draper's business at 51 High Street Bedford. Firm descended to Edward Paine Rose and his step-mother on his father's death and moved across to 50 High Street. Business expanded until it eventually occuppied Nos 46-52 High Street. The Rose family remained involved until finally becoming a complete subsiduary of Debenhams in 1960s. Continued to trade under E P Rose name until the early 1970s. Closed as part of final store closures by Debenhams in 2021.

Deposited April 1984, Feb 1986 and May 2021. Gifted to Bedfordshire Archives by agreement dated 1 April 2026.
